The Rolex Explorer, reference 124270, is the return of the Explorer to its original 36mm format, a decision that Rolex took in 2021 and that collectors received with unanimous enthusiasm. Crafted entirely in Oystersteel, the 124270 presents the Explorer in the case size that many argue was always the definitive one, a perfectly proportioned 36mm Oyster case that sits with effortless elegance on virtually any wrist. Clean lines, no bezel complications, no date window, no distractions. Just a beautifully resolved tool watch that has been finding its way to the top of mountains, and wishlists, since 1953.
The black dial is a lesson in doing more with less, with the iconic 3, 6, and 9 Arabic numerals, luminescent hour markers, and Chromalight-filled hands offering exceptional legibility in any condition. Every element is exactly where it should be, in exactly the right proportion, and nothing has been added that does not need to be there.
Powering the watch is the Rolex Calibre 3230, a state-of-the-art in-house automatic movement featuring a Chronergy escapement and Parachrom hairspring for outstanding precision, magnetic resistance, and a generous 70-hour power reserve. The finest movement Rolex has ever put in the Explorer.
The watch is fitted with the Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock clasp, offering a secure and comfortable fit that is as ready for the office as it is for the outdoors.
