The Patek Philippe Nautilus, reference 3800/1A, is the smaller and more quietly refined member of the original Nautilus family, designed by Gérald Genta and introduced in 1981 as a more accessible complement to the landmark reference 3700. Over four decades later, it remains one of the most sought-after vintage Nautilus references among serious collectors worldwide. This certified pre-owned example from 1986 is offered in very good condition and comes with its full original set, including box, papers, and all original accessories.
Crafted in stainless steel, the 3800/1A presents the Nautilus in its distinctive cushion-shaped case measuring 37.5mm across and just 8.3mm in height, with the signature porthole-inspired octagonal bezel and horizontally embossed dial that defined the Nautilus from the very beginning. An integrated bracelet that flows seamlessly from the case completes a design that Gérald Genta conceived in minutes on a paper napkin and that Patek Philippe turned into one of the most enduring watch designs in history.
The deep blue dial carries the Nautilus's signature horizontal relief pattern, with applied golden stick hour markers, feuille-shaped hands, and a date display that together create a composition of extraordinary elegance and depth. Nearly four decades of age have only deepened the character of a dial that was beautiful to begin with, and that now carries the unmistakable warmth of a genuinely vintage Patek Philippe.
Powering the watch is the Patek Philippe Calibre 335 S C, a high-quality automatic movement with date complication, 37 jewels, and the finishing quality expected from one of watchmaking's most celebrated manufactures. Visible through the open caseback, it rewards every second spent admiring it.
